And I'll wonder what might have been if the Tennessee General Assembly hadn't banned wagering on horse racing in 1907. In our lifetime, Tennessee is renowned for the Walking Horse breed. Once upon a time, we were ahead of even Kentucky in the world of thoroughbred racing and breeding. Once upon a time Knoxvillians could attend – and wager – on horse races right here in our fair city.
